Hello! My name is Marie Antoinette Smalls, Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) and owner of Gaia Therapeutic Massage. My mission is simple: Offer support and relief for people dealing with symptoms of anxiety and depression. I started my journey as an LMT at the age of 50. Before I decided to attend massage school, I worked full-time as a Certified Peer Specialist /Caseworker supporting peers in living their own lives, through directing their own recovery and wellness process.Through my lived experiences, I know first-hand how stress can take a physical and emotional toll on one’s mental and physical well-being. I’ve overcome my own struggles with anxiety and depression. The traditional treatments for mental illness include medication, psychological therapy, or a combination of the two. I knew that there had to be a more holistic approach to feeling mentally, physically, and spiritually better. That led me to focus more on my own personal healing. Through my self-discovery, I learned about the benefits of massage, the positive aspects of mindfulness meditation, and how focusing on my whole health could change my life. I incorporated these approaches in my own lifestyle changes. I learned to focus on my breathing which helped me to relax and become in-tune with my body. I learned to become centered in the present and not in the past or future. I started feeling better!!! I love the person I have become. I am LIVING again and not just EXISTING. From my experience, I wanted to support others who struggle with their own physical and emotional issues. So, I enrolled in massage school and that was the best thing I could have ever done!Fast Forward!! I graduated in 2016 from Augusta School of Massage in Augusta Georgia. I received additional training in Whole Health and Wellness (WHAM), Trauma Informed Care, and as well as Bodywork for Anxiety and Depression. I am a Tibetan Sound Bowl Practitioner and a Certified Reiki practitioner (Master Level). I am still working in the Mental Health field as an advocate for those who are unable or unwilling to voice their needs. I love to teach and model recovery.I love spending time with my 8 grandchildren, close friends, and my two fur babies. Most people call me a mother hen because I’m always helping people become better versions of themselves. I LOVE to see the best in people when they don’t see it in themselves, and help them to discover how truly amazing they are!Feel free to contact me at Marie@gaiatherapeuticmassage.com or 706-339-9541 for additional information and to schedule an appointment. I look forward to connecting with you soon!
